Maytenus ilicifolia new addition to herbal teas
We have added another Amazonian treasure to our line of herbal teas Maytenus ilicifolia, often called Espinheira Santa or Cangorosa. It is a shrubby evergreen tree native to the forests and grassy lands of Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. It has distinctive leathery leaves with thorns along the edges, yellow-green flowers and orange color fruits. The first people who started using this plant were Indians of the Guarani tribe, primarily for the treatment of indigestion and stomach ulcers, badly healing wounds, rashes and other skin eruptions. Later on scientific research confirmed other effects, e.g. anticancer, tonifying, antirheumatic, hormonal, and rejuvenating.
